Summerland

Summerland is a community located along the Okanagan Lake about 17 km north of Penticton. It has a population of 11,615 and has an area of 73.88 km². Roughly one third of that is farmland, about 5400 acres mostly in orchards and vineyards.

Summerland's first winery opened up in 1980, the Sumac Ridge Estate Winery. They were acquired by Vincor International Inc. in 2000. Stellar's Jay sparkling wines are produced at this winery.

Scherzinger Vineyard started planting their first vines in 1978. The grapes were contracted out to other wineries until 1995 when the winery was established. Thornhaven Estate Winery opened its doors in 2001 and the Adora Estate Winery in 2003.

Scherzinger was renamed as Dirty Laundry Vineyard 2005 and the Adora Estate Winery moved to an Oliver location in 2007 and Summerland Winery changed name to 8th Generation Vineyard.

Several more wineries and cideries opened up in Summerland and there are now more than 20 wine and cider producers in Summerland.
