West Kelowna

In 2007 the Westside District Municipality came into existence to be renamed the West Kelowna District Municipality two years later. In 2015 it officially became known as West Kelowna.

West Kelowna has a land area of 123.53 km² and a population close to 33000. Part of what is now West Kelowna was originally considered part of the Kelowna region.

The first winery in this area was Mission Hill Vineyards which opened up in 1966. They went through a few changes of ownership and winery names, Uncle Ben's Gourmet Wines, Golden Valley, to end up named again as Mission Hill Vineyards. In 1981 and finally became known as Mission Hill Family Estate.

In 1989 Quail's Gate Vineyard Estate Winery joined the scene with their first vineyard planted dating back to 1956.

In 1996 Slamka Cellars opened its doors, renamed Little Straw Vineyards Estate Winery in 2004 and Mount Boucherie Vineyards & Cellars opened up in 2001.

At this time there are 15 wineries in the West Kelowna Area.
