The Thompson Nicola Regional District covers an area of 45,279 km². The wine region is located in the central area of this district alongside the Thompson River starting in Spences Bridge to Kamloops and along the South Thompson River from Kamloops to Little Shuswap Lake. Also included is the area bordering the Bonaparte River. Lytton is located within this district but is included in the Lillooet/Lytton region.
The first winery in this area opened its doors in 1999; the Bonaparte Bend Winery located in Cache Creek. Bonaparte Bend produced a variety of fruit wines but they closed their doors in 2015 selling their wine making equipment and left over wine inventory to the Northern Lights Estate Winery in Prince George.
Left Field Cider began commercial cider production in 2011 and in that same year Woodward Wine Cellars showed up under licensed wineries at the same location as what would become Privato Vineyard and Winery in 2013. Harper's Trail Estate Winery became a licensed winery in 2012.
